New Customize Translations feature

This new feature allows a Marketplace Manager to localize the text and button labels in the marketplace on pages that are not affected by the storefront theme,

Previously, Marketplace Managers who wanted to localize their marketplaces (to translate it into another language, or simply to use different terms within it) were obliged to contact their AppDirect technical representatives in order to change the text and button labels in the user interface. If errors were made, they similarly had to contact AppDirect in order to have them corrected.

Now, Marketplace Managers are able to change text and labels by downloading a comma-separated value (CSV) file from a new Customize Translations page, which AppDirect can enable as a replacement for the current Translations page.

When enabled, the Custom Translations page is available at:

Manage > Marketplace > Settings > CUSTOM UI | Customize Translations

The Marketplace manager can navigate to this page and click the Download button to download a CSV file with the current marketplace text and labels,

This CSV file lists the text and labels for elements of the marketplace UI in all languages that marketplace supports. It includes several columns:

• namespace
• bundle
• key
• Two columns for each supported language in the marketplace:
  • <language code>
  • <language code>\_<marketplace\_company>

A Marketplace Manager can add localized alternatives for any text or label by locating it in the file, and adding the updated text in the _<language code>\_<marketplace\_company>_ columns for the appropriate languages.

When the file is complete, the Marketplace Manager saves it and uploads the modified CSV file to the marketplace by selecting the file in the Upload CSV file section of the page, and clicking Upload. The system then uploads the file, reads the desired labels, and displays the new labels appropriately in the marketplace. The change may take up to 15 minutes for some items, though most will appear with the updated label right away.

When this feature is enabled, the marketplace is granted access to a special Klingon language which replaces label text with the key for the label. Marketplace Managers can verify the exact key of the label they wish to modify by navigating to the page with that label and temporarily changing the marketplace language to Klingon, so they can note the desired key.

Klingon was selected for this purpose because it has an official code, but is never used for localization.

A given key may appear up to twice in the CSV file: once with the namespace “monolith”, and once with a different namespace. When this is the case, the Marketplace Manager must add the new label to the row with the other namespace, as it will take precedence over the “monolith” namespace entry.
